iriver Clix Rhapsody 4 GB Digital Music and Video Player (Black) Review

iriver Clix Rhapsody 4 GB Digital Music and Video Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Player that has it all. This player does more that most any other.MP3, WMA music files I can drag and drop AND use Windows Media player AND use Rhapsody for subscription music (Napster subscription service works too, but doesn't have Rhapsody's awesome channels, which are like having a personal DJ)Just about any other music service out there will work, and you can still rip and copy your own files.

But wait, I'm just getting started. This thing plays videos on it's beautiful QVGA screen. If you think you can't stand a tiny screen, you haven't seen the Clix's OLED display. It's crisp, bright and easy on the eyes. Some of these small screens show pixels and ghost images, not so with the Clix2.I can watch for hours and not mind at all.

Okay, I'm not even close to done yet.We also have Audible capabilities.Audible is a great audiobook service that gets all the latest audiobooks and makes them available for download, these transfer over to the Clix2 in a snap and provide hours and hours of enjoyment for everyone who likes books but has trouble finding the time to read.

Want more?Sure! The built in FM radio is easy to use and picks up more stations than any of my portable players, it has something like 20 presets and will set them all in no time.

What's the catch? you must be thinking.Don't ask me, I'm still looking for one.Good volume output with buds or full size headphones, great equalizer presets, a manual EQ and SRS WOW magic stuff that makes headphones and speakers sound like they cost a bundle of cash.

Oh, wait! You want more?Really?OK, Clix delivers. You can look at pictures, browse through or see an automatic slide show (while listening to your tunes, of course)and if you got some time to kill, it comes with 4 great flash games you can play.If you look around you can find more on the web.

So, I must say that I'm really pleased with the HUGE array of features, the sound quality and overall operation of this player. It has NO equals in it's category.

Coby MP-C886 MP3 Player with 1 GB Flash Memory, FM Radio & USB Drive Review

Coby MP-C886 MP3 Player with 1 GB Flash Memory, FM Radio & USB Drive
Average Reviews:

I bought this as a cheap MP3 player for my daughter's birthday.I figured she'd lose it anyway. She was excited when she opened it, but two hours later, I'd seen enough.Turns on, then off repeatedly when connected to the computer through the USB connection, so computer can never fully sync with the device. Our other MP3 players work fine.
COBY "customer support" is horrendous.First, "Damien" tells me that I must charge the unit for 4 hours.I argue with him that this thing takes a AAA battery, what's to charge! He gets back to me, agrees that it is defective. Then tells me they want a $6 MONEY ORDER to process a return.Returning to Amazon.

Product Description:
Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand but loaded with features, the Coby MP-C886 MP3 player lets you listen to your favorite tunes on the bus, at the park, and just about anywhere else. The device measures a mere 3.58 by 1.1 by 0.75 inches (W x H x D), with a removable end cap that reveals a direct USB plug for connecting to a computer (no cable required). More significantly, the MP-C886 offers 1 GB of integrated flash memory, so you can store roughly 16 hours of MP3 music or 32 hours of WMA music--more than enough for a marathon training run or a cross-country flight. And for those occasions when you need to transport data rather than music, the MP- C886 can handle that, too, with the ability to store JPEG photos, text documents, and more. The mobile storage function is ideal for transporting business documents across the country or serving as an overflow backup for your digital camera's memory card.
It's easy to navigate through the audio player's contents thanks to the high-contrast LCD display, which displays the song title and artist information. And as with the best MP3 players, the MP-C886 offers a number of handy extras, such as easy-to-use thumb navigation, a built-in digital FM tuner with a recording option, support for Windows Media DRM-10 online subscription services, an integrated microphone for digital voice recording, ID3 and LRC support for song and synchronized lyric information display, and a high-speed USB 2.0 interface (up to 40x faster than USB 1.0). The MP-C886, which runs on a single AAA battery (included), works with Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP and Mac OS X operating systems and carries a 90-day warranty.

COWON J3 16 GB Portable Media Player (Black) Review

COWON J3 16 GB Portable Media Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned the cowon x5L for nearly 4 years and was waiting for it to break OR for Cowon to
release a worthy player before I considered replacing it. While the S9 left me unimpressed
the new J3 is a superbly refined and well balanced player. Its size, build quality and, most importantly,
its UI are all testament to the development DAPs have undergone in the past 5 years.

The new Jet Effect 3.0 settings are great and provide alot more tweaks than the older versions.
Its screen and ease of use for photos are also big improvements.

The only two things I found a little problematic are inserting the microsd card...you need to really
push it in hard and this cannot be done with a finger unless you have a long nail, which i don't.
Also, I find the screen requires a little cleaning every day..but I think this is the norm for
touch screens these days and it really is not such a problem considering the plethora of benefits
it provides.

Sound Quality is superb, esp with jeteffect 3.0 turned on...and my flac files sound warm and full.
Compared to the x5 I feel i need to listen 5 higher on volume but still with 40 the max, there is
room to spare for that bit extra if you want to plug it into an amp.

Also, I must say that the Cowon software is a great asset for ripping cds as it is fast and
gives many more codec options than other programs.

All in all, thank you Cowon for this new player and for the key of balance and good design!

Cowon S9 32 GB Video MP3 Player with Touchscreen (Titanium Black) Review

Cowon S9 32 GB Video MP3 Player with Touchscreen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cowon is famous for it's media players. Latest in the line is this beautiful S9 Curve. The first thing I look for when I get a new player is the latest firmware. Cowon is on the ball. Version 2.05 came out before mine arrived, and I ordered mine from Jetmall.net the first day they were available in the U.S.. Version 2.06 came out 12/24. We're already up to 2.30 and the S9 just keeps getting better.I've always thought Cowon's players were bulky and not very practical or portable. The S9 changes the rules. Clearly Cowon has noticed that beautiful, innovative looks can help sell players.

What they didn't do was forget it's a media player. Music is best is class.Video is amazing shown on it's 3.3" AMOLED widescreen. Photos follow suite. If you're old enough to need reading glasses the Zoom feature makesapps with text easier to read/see with a simple slide of your finger. File format support is broad. You can drag and drop media directly onto the S9, use Windows Media Player, or use the Jetaudio app that comes included to put media on it.

Now with 32gb capacity you'll have room for movies and photos worth watching on that beautiful screen. Get the inexpensive video output cable and serve up movies to your TV.You'll get up to 50 hours music and 10 hours video playback with one battery charge.Don't forget FLASH game/app support, FM radio with recording, voice recording, and Bluetooth for wireless headphones. There is no Wifi or what it brings, but it's also $100 less than the iPod Touch of the same memory capacity.

Be sure and keep the firmware updated.Cowon is sending updates out each month, and each one has brought significant improvement. Best touchscreen player of 2009 I'll predict.

SanDisk Sansa c240 1 GB MP3 Player (Black) Review

SanDisk Sansa c240 1 GB MP3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought mine just a few days ago and have been enjoying it ever since. I bought it to replace a pitiful Coby unit that had the same 1GB of memory but none of the ease of this one.

Good aspects of this player:

1) it's wonderfully small and easy to carry around. The lanyard provided easily goes around my neck and keeps the player secure so that I don't drop it down a drainpipe or something.

2) you can get started using it in seconds. Literally--seconds. I pulled it out of the package and had the radio going immediately, setting up my fave stations with great ease. When it comes to loading music on to it? Easy peasy. I use Windows Media Player 11 and just sync this player, filling it with all the music I need.

3) it's easy to use music services with this one (I am using URGE).I just download the songs I want onto my pc, then sync them with this player. Takes very little time and gives me absolutely no hassles. The player is immediately recognized by WMP, and syncing is a breeze. (Note: I'm not techno-savvy enough to distinguish between different music file types and the like; all I have is WMA files, I think, and that's just groovy for me; if, however, you are really really into this and have other preferences, don't like DRM scoping out your activities, etc., then this player may not be your best choice).

4) the little screen is pleasant and colorful, and you can even view album covers on it if those are available for the tracks you've sync'd to the player.

5) the microSD slot means I can add even more songs quite easily rather than having to buy another player.

6) the price is fantastic. I didn't get mine onAmazon because I wanted it RIGHT NOW, and it still cost me very little, compared to iPods and other more expensive brands. I paid way less than I would for a Shuffle, and in my opinion got a better, more flexible unit.

7) when you turn the unit off, then power it back on, you start precisely where you last left off. I love that! The Coby one would always take me back to the beginning of my song list. Talk about frustrating! This one allows me to start where I left off or use menu functions to locate artists, albums, songs, playlists, etc. For example, the other day I wanted only to listen to some meditation tracks I had on it. I just hit the menu button, found "Music" and then scrolled down to playlists. I hit the big button once, got to the playlist and told it to "play all." And there it went. Lovely!

8) Sound quality is very nice. I've got everything from spoken word to hard rock on mine, and it all sounds good. Last night I listened to Van Morrison's "Crazy Love," and I swear Iheard him breathing on that track for the first time. Nice that the player has good equalizer customization so that I can finetune how my stuff sounds. Now for the not-so-positive aspects:

1) the battery life SUCKS. Sucks badly. Did I mention that it really SUCKS the big one?!?! I have charged it twice already, and never have I gotten more than an hour and 10 minutes of use before it starts to look like it's 1/3 empty. That means, if logic holds, that the battery life for me would be less than 5 hours. I don't know about you, but that just does not have me smiling.

2) charging the battery is done through the use of a USB cable you hook up to your computer, and each time I hook this unit up, the player turns on. Seems to me to defeat the purpose to have it being in use whilst charging it, but okay. Anyway, it's a bummer to have to carry that cable around with me wherever. I will have to invest in a different charger.

3) The contrast on the screen isn't what it could be. Sometimes I can't tell how much juice I still have in it because the contrast is so bad. I've tried all sorts of settings and can't find a way to fix the problem. I'm doomed to eye strain, I guess. Heh.

4) I have less than 150 songs on the unit and am already using 90% of its capacity. Urg. I expected to get more songs on it than that, but then maybe some of the songs I've got on there are really long. Don't think so, but hey. I'll give Sansa the benefit of the doubt.

5) the headphones that come with it are painfully uncomfortable. But then manufacturer-provided headphones seem to always suck, so there you go.

Coby 4GB Flash MP3 Player with FM and Color Display (Black) Review

Coby 4GB Flash MP3 Player with FM and Color Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me begin by admitting that I am "downgrading" to a Coby 610 from an ipod Nano which broke (mysteriously) a few months ago.I needed an MP3 player, and I could not afford to invest in a new Nano. The Coby was my compromise: at a fraction of the price and apparently with far greater capabilities, this machine had the contest hands down.

Well, sort of.My principal need was a machine that would play music WELL and hold a lot of it.I got what I paid for: the Coby 610 has copious memory (more than enough for my needs) and seems to be able to play my music just fine.So my complaints here are technically superficial. But I think they are worth considering.

First, if you get a Coby 610, you will be amazed at how light and chintzy the plastic case seems. My Nano had a sturdy, flashy, beautiful metal case-- this one FEELS ready to crack in my hands (note: actual cracks have yet to appear).Second, you will notice that the font used on the display screen is a blocky system font-- easy enough to read, I guess, but far from sleek or stylish.Next, you will discover that the "fly wheel" on the lower half of the front panel does not "fly" at all: the Nano had a wheel that actually "swirled" allowing me to scroll and navigate through the Nano's various menus: here, it is just a directional up/ down/ left/ right button placed on a silver wheel.

Okay, more good things: I was blown away by the fact that, for about $30, I could watch a full-length movie on the [tiny] display screen.I mean, it's really, really small, and the practicality of watching ANY movie on a screen so small must be considered questionable, but there it was, right there: a movie on the LCD display. My Nano could never do that.

Am I happy with my purchase?I guess so.I do not feel like I was ripped off, certainly, nor do I feel like I walked in blind.I guess I was, just, well, disappointed...When I got it out of the box and started working with it I was disappointed.I didn't feel like I had gotten an amazing new thing for a bargain price. But I am glad I have it.Rihanna just isn't the same unless you can hear her sing.
