(More customer reviews)The Philips PSA232 is not the worst MP3 I've ever encountered, but it's certainly far from good. I purchased this model (on clearance, not surprisingly as it turns out) and returned it three weeks later. The main problems: 1) As everyone has mentioned, the battery life is terrible. Even rechargable batteries often lasted only 3 hours. 2) Using a miniSD card to increase the storage introduces its own problems. I often had to reformat the card after songs had been transferred because Windows Media Player crashed during a transfer. 3) The player can be very picky about ID3 tags. If they are too long, or have unsupported data tags, the songs will not play on the device (even though the files are clearly listed on the player). So save yourself the aggravation and shop for a better model.

Designed for active music listeners who work and play hard, the Philips PSA232 MP3 player stores up to 128 MP3s or 256 WMA files in a round and robust body that holds up to heavy use. The player's controls are built on a "no-look" rocking lens, which provides discreet and easy access to multiple functions without disrupting your workouts. Simply tap on the guiding points of the rocking lens--all of which are marked with a small bump for convenience--to play songs, skip, adjust the volume, and perform a host of other tasks, all without glancing at the player. It's great for jogging, snowshoeing, stair stepping, and any other on-the-go activity.
Songs are stored on the player's 512 MB of built-in memory, which is teamed with a mini Secure Digital (SD) card slot for expandability. By itself, the player holds around 15 hours of music, but thanks to the memory card slot, the MP3 player's capacity is restricted only by the number of SD cards you own. Another nice bonus is the ID3 tag support, which reads the album title, artist name, and track title from encoded MP3s and transfers them to the backlit 96 x 64 LCD display.
The PSA232 is no slouch from an audio perspective, either. The unit's digital bass boost pumps up the low-frequency response for a fuller overall sound, while the multiple equalizer settings (R&B, rock, hip-hop, classic, and jazz) deliver several listening options based on genre or personal taste. Should you tire of MP3s and want to catch a favorite music or news show, turn to the FM tuner, which not only picks up the entire FM spectrum (87.5 to 108 MHz) but also includes 10 station presets for easy channel surfing.
And no sport MP3 player is complete with a built-in stopwatch. This particularly model includes a talking stopwatch, which relays elapsed running time through the headphones. No need to look at the display, or even turn off the music for that matter. To activate the stopwatch, simply press the strategically positioned button on the top left of the player. It's that simple.
The device is compatible with PCs running Windows XP and includes a copy of Windows Media Player 10. It also requires a free USB port, Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, and a sound card to function properly. And at 2.5 by 1.04 by 2.5 inches (W x H x D), it takes up only a tiny amount of space. The unit comes with a single AAA battery and a USB cable and is backed by a one-year warranty.
