(More customer reviews)I bought this for a quick cheap buy for a 3 hour bus trip, brought it home and looked up the 3 reviews here, thought "Great, it's going to be a piece of crap".
But, I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.
I loaded it up with some photos, videos, and songs... then I charged it away. The following day on my trip, for some reason it was only halfway charged.I also could not find my videos or photos but the music played fine. The half a charge lasted me the 3 hour trip there.I'd say total, it lasted for about 3 and a half hours.
So, here I thought "Great! These bad reviews were right!" but obviously, I gave it a decent star so there has to be good right? Right!
The Issue: Charging the player
Clarification: Yes, you have to charge the player for 10 hours the first time. Yes, you have to have it plugged directly into the USB from the provided USB chord. Both of these are specified in the few instructions they give you.For me, neither of these things were an issue but I did have problems the first week or so with the charge not really working right.
The Resolution: When charging the player, it must be turned on.What I realized was that I left the player plugged in, charging, and still turned on.When it finished charging, I would just leave it.This ended up killing the battery because it was no longer charging and it was turned on.Yes, I think this is kind of silly.I mean, if it's plugged in should it not keep charging? But, that's the key.Charge it 10 hours the first time. Then 4 hours the next time and just make sure you unplug it and turn it off.I have yet to have a battery issue since this discovery.
Note* I don't think the battery lasts 16 hours as specified though.I woud say that it lasts maybe 8 - 10 hours max in my experience.
The Issue: Have to turn off the player to get from one mode (Ex. Music) to main menu or another mode.
Clarification: Someone else mentioned this and at first, I also thought this was true.
The Resolution: The player has five buttons.Menu (Top), Fast Forward/Skip Forward (Right), Volume (Bottom), Rewind/Skip back (Left), Play/Pause (Center). When in a mode (Ex. Music), all you have to do is press and hold the menu button and VOILA! the main menu appears.
The Issue: Loaded movies and photos but could not find them.Since 53% of my 1 gb was filled, I knew they were on the player somewhere, but I just couldn't find them.
Clarification: The software they give you is not really that great. It did not make a lot of sense to me and when I loaded things onto my player, I did not know where exactly they were going and I could not seem to find them in any of the modes.I deleted everything I could from the player and still 53% was filled by stuff I could not find.
The Resolution: Use Windows Media Player or another program that will sync to your devices.I was able to find where everything was stored and delete everything from my player so that even the mysterious 53% was gone! This way you can figure out what you are putting on the player and where you are putting them. I've noticed empty folders stay on the player even after you delete the mp3, Windows Media Player deletes everything.
The Issue: Movie Mode mode does not work.
Clarification: I put movies on the player but the movie player says there are no files.I convert to .AVI as requested using the converter, still shows as no files.
The Resolution: The converter is odd.I couldn't figure out how to use it at first. It took me a while, but I figured it out. To convert, you pick the file you want to convert as the input file and then pick the folder on your computer where you want the converted file to save. Also make sure that it copies to your player. Conclusion:
There is a provided instruction booklet and while it's not detailed, it does have some useful information like the fact that you need to directly connect to the computer and how long to charge it the first time and each time thereafter.
It's not easy as pie, but it's also not brain surgery.Give it more than a day before tossing.I've had mine for 3 weeks. I'm glad I never tossed it.
Remember, it's $25.It's not going to be the quality of a $300 or even $100 mp3 player. If you want something of a good quality, pay for good quality. If you want something that works for cheap, this is fine.
